Healing the pain of abortion – one weekend at a time.

Dr. Karen Stevenson, a psychiatrist and a Rachel’s Vineyard team leader in Atlanta and Baltimore, speaks about the impact of abortion on the African-American community. “I know that many of you may feel that this is possibly a non-issue for us. However, I want to share with you that it is a devastating epidemic in the black community,” says Dr Stevenson. “Abortion has impacted about 40% of African American women, many of whom have had multiple abortions.”

Dr. Stevenson talks about the black community being “traumatized by many issues beginning with slavery.” This can result in a “self hatred” that leads to an increase in abortion. “As a result of that self hatred we became complicit in our own demise with a lot of the decisions we have made as a community.”

“I would strongly encourage women, men, and children who have been impacted by abortion to consider a Rachel’s Vineyard retreat,” says Dr Stevenson, “These are powerful healing retreats that help people find a safe place to receive the unconditional love and forgiveness of God. It is a powerful healing tool that we need in this day because our community has been so devastated.” Dr. Karen Stevenson
